The song is  “Some Die For Money”  by 3D (A Fish In Sea), recorded for their March 1982 Peel Session.

My name is John Reynolds aka Johnny Riff aka Riff.  I am the guitarist on this recording. Somebody contacted me via Facebook
yesterday 9/9/21 asking about this tracks’ origins. They already had quite a bit of information and I am now trying to fill some
of the gaps?

Titled ‘Some Die for Money’ by a band from Liverpool ‘3D a Fish in Sea’ a play on the word efficiency. When we first formed we
were looking for an interesting name and Richie the vocalist read an article in a photography magazine with similar wording, he
liked it, suggested it and it stuck. The song was never released in this format, it was released however, as a B side for the later 3D
on RAK records with completely different lyrics titled ‘The Club’ Some Die for Money aka ‘My Murder’ …. A far better title by the
 way, whoever came up with it? 3D a Fish in Sea are-  John Reynolds (me), guitar – Richie Holmes, Vocals – Roy Campbell, Bass –
Phil Martin, Sax - Fred Palethorpe Drums, & Steve Spurgin, Keyboards .

‘Murder’ was recorded first as a demo at The Open Eye Galleries (Studios), Liverpool Open Eye Gallery – History I cannot recall
 if it was 4 track or 8 track at the time, it was engineered and produced by the band with David Hutchman and Noddy (Mike)
Knowler (the house producers/engineers), I have a decent recording of the original session. It was later recorded for a John Peel
Session which is the ‘recording’ that has been doing the rounds, along with the RAK version that have sparked off the controversy.

I had though (until speaking with Richie the singer only yesterday) the song had been written by bass guitarist Roy. Apparently not,
Richie had written it, as in adding to a keyboard riff Steve played at a rehearsal room, that I added the heavy guitar riff to. It turns
out Richie (who‘d have known) was a bit of a Jack The Ripper ‘buff’. He wrote the lyrics based on some books articles he was reading
at the time. He told me yesterday that my wife ‘Gail’ had said to him when she first heard it ‘that’s too good, you never wrote that’!
 I have to say it is damn good eh? Proper title track for a horror movie stuff?

So good that when myself, Steve and Freddie were sacked by the other half of the band – Roy, Richie and Phil, I was reluctant to just
forget the song hence the revamped version once we found a new singer for the new 3D. I have now heard ‘cover versions’ of the
track, all emanating from this and other similar threads! Mental!

Hi everyone. I'm Steve the keyboard player referred to by John Reynolds. I can't believe there has been so much searching for this
song. I'm honoured and humbled. I still play the songs from the original incarnation of the band and Some Die For Money is one
of my favourites.......should have been a hit!!! Damn!! The only other version of the recording that I have is from the original Open
Eye studios session which was originally on cassette and I managed to convert to MP3 several years ago. I think it was 4 track rather
than 8 track. Or maybe it was two 4 tracks linked together. Not true 8 track but almost.
I've uploaded it to the band's Facebook page. Not the best quality in the world but still good enough for me. Enjoy.
